How the movement works

The flight is one part. Preparation decides the journey.

A deceased person does not move through the normal passenger baggage process. The body is prepared, documented and accepted through airline cargo. We coordinate the steps in sequence so the coffin reaches the airport only after the documents and preparation are ready for cargo handling.

Realistic time planning

How long does air transportation actually take?

A one-hour flight does not mean a one-hour transfer. Most of the work happens before departure and again after landing. Planning around the whole chain avoids missed cargo cut-offs and unrealistic expectations.

~5h
Preparation

Embalming, body preparation, coffin packing and certificates.

3–5h
Bangalore cargo process

Airport transfer, reporting, verification, weighing and airline acceptance.

1–2h*
Flight

*Illustrative for many short domestic sectors; actual duration depends on destination and routing.

2–3h
Destination release

Planning allowance for cargo processing and authorised collection.

1–2h*
City road movement

*Common city allowance only; distance and traffic vary. Charged separately.

Can it move the same day? Often yes, when documentation is ready, preparation begins early enough, cargo space is available and the airline's reporting cut-off can be met. We confirm the workable flight before treating same-day departure as fixed.

MLC documentation · when applicable
Documents before cargo

The paperwork should be checked before the airport run.

For the domestic air movements we arrange, we first check the death-related documents and police clearance before the coffin is sent for cargo reporting. Embalming and coffin certificates are prepared during the service process.

Normal / natural death

  • Death certificate / applicable medical death documentation
  • Police NOC / police clearance for the air movement
  • Embalming certificate
  • Coffin / packing certificate
  • Identification or cargo-related papers requested for the selected airline

MLC + postmortem case

  • The normal air-transport document set
  • FIR / relevant police papers
  • Postmortem certificate / applicable postmortem documents
  • Police clearance required for transportation
Airlines can differ in the exact papers, format and reporting requirements they accept. We confirm the operating airline's requirements before cargo movement instead of assuming every carrier follows an identical checklist.
Mandatory preparation

Embalming and coffin preparation are part of the air movement.

For air transportation arranged through Swargayatraa, we do not send the body to cargo without embalming and the required coffin preparation. We use our three-layer preparation standard for the air cases we coordinate, subject to the operating carrier's acceptance requirements. Embalming is normally completed in a hospital or at a private embalming centre by an appropriate medical practitioner.

Cargo weight & cost

Why the final packed weight changes the price.

Air cargo is charged on the prepared shipment, not only the person's body weight. The coffin and packing add to the final cargo weight, and airlines can price different weight bands differently.

How the starting package is calculated
Included band
Up to 100 kgThe starting ₹29,999 package is calculated within this cargo band.
Higher band
100–150 kgAdditional airline cargo cost may apply.
Higher band
150–200 kgAdditional airline cargo cost may apply.
Above this
Higher slabsPriced according to the airline and route available for the case.

Airlines do not all use the same tariff table. We check the final airline, route, packed weight and available cargo rate before the case begins.

Final quote before start
Family travel & routing

You may travel on the same flight. You may not have to.

01

Does a family member have to accompany the body?

Airline rules differ. Some carriers require an accompanying passenger or representative and proof of relationship, while other cargo arrangements can differ. We check the operating airline's current requirement before confirming the movement. Any passenger ticket is charged separately.

02

Can the family travel on the same flight?

Yes, subject to passenger availability and airline requirements. The passenger booking and the human-remains cargo booking are separate. Travelling on the same flight can make destination coordination easier, but it is not automatically mandatory on every movement.

03

Direct or connecting flight?

We prefer a practical direct flight where one is available because it reduces cargo transfers. If the destination does not have a workable direct option, we can coordinate a connecting routing subject to airline acceptance through the connection.

04

Who receives the coffin after landing?

A family member or authorised receiver should be identified before departure. We share the available flight / cargo details and guide the receiver on collection from the destination cargo facility and the identification or papers they should keep ready.

At the airport

Cargo acceptance in Bangalore. Release at destination.

The coffin is handled through airline cargo rather than the normal passenger baggage belt. We coordinate the Bangalore-side process around Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) and prepare the family for destination release.

02
Documents and shipment checkedDeath-related papers, police clearance, embalming and coffin documentation are kept ready as applicable.
03
Final packed weight confirmedThe completed coffin is weighed and the applicable cargo band is established.
04
Airline cargo acceptanceThe shipment proceeds only after the operating airline accepts it for the confirmed movement.
05
Destination cargo releaseCollection happens through the destination cargo facility. We guide the receiver on the release process.

If the flight changes

A cancellation changes the route. It does not end our coordination.

Airline operations can change after the body has already been embalmed and packed. We explain the available next step rather than leaving the family to restart the process alone.

If flying is no longer practical: we can arrange continuation by road. That road journey is a separate service and is quoted additionally according to distance and vehicle requirement.
Airline refunds follow airline policy and timing

If an airline cargo charge or passenger ticket is eligible for refund, it is processed according to the airline's applicable rules and timeline. An immediate refund should not be expected at the time of cancellation.

Completed embalming is not refundable

Once embalming has been performed, that work and its associated cost have already been incurred.

Completed coffin preparation is not refundable

The coffin and three-layer packing remain prepared for the deceased even if the planned flight is later cancelled.

We assess the next workable movement

Depending on cargo availability and the family's preference, the next option can be another suitable flight or a separately quoted road journey.

Air transportation FAQ

Questions families ask before the flight.

Exact airline requirements, cargo availability and pricing are confirmed for each case before movement.

How much does dead body air transportation from Bangalore cost?
Packages start from ₹29,999 for eligible domestic movements. The final price depends on the destination, airline, final packed weight, routing and any additional requirements. The starting package is calculated within an air-cargo weight band up to 100 kg. We provide the final quote before the case starts.
How long does it take to transport a dead body by flight from Bangalore?
Preparation normally takes about five hours, followed by roughly three to five hours for Bangalore airport cargo processing. These are planning ranges based on the air cases we coordinate from Bangalore. Flight time depends on the destination and routing, while destination cargo release is planned with a further two to three hours. Final road movement after release depends on distance and traffic.
Can the body be transported on the same day?
Same-day departure is possible in many cases when the required documents are ready, embalming and coffin packing can be completed in time, the airline has cargo capacity and its cargo reporting cut-off can be met. We do not treat same-day movement as confirmed until a workable cargo plan is checked.
Is embalming compulsory for air transportation?
For air transportation arranged through Swargayatraa, yes. Embalming and the required coffin preparation are mandatory parts of our domestic air-transport process. Our three-layer packing is our operational standard for the air cases we coordinate, subject to carrier acceptance. Embalming is normally carried out at a hospital or suitable private embalming centre by an appropriate medical practitioner.
What documents are required for domestic air transportation?
For the movements we arrange, the document set normally includes the death certificate or applicable medical death document, police NOC / clearance, embalming certificate and coffin / packing certificate, with identification or cargo papers as requested by the operating airline. Airline-specific requirements are checked before movement.
What additional documents are needed for an MLC or postmortem case?
When a postmortem has been conducted in a medico-legal case, the applicable FIR / police papers and postmortem certificate are required along with the normal air-transport documentation and police clearance.
Does a family member have to travel with the body?
Airline rules differ. Some carriers require an accompanying passenger or representative and proof of relationship, while other cargo arrangements can differ. We verify the operating airline's current requirement before the movement is confirmed. Passenger fares are additional.
Can family members travel on the same flight?
Yes, subject to passenger-seat availability and the airline's requirements. Passenger tickets and the human-remains cargo booking are separate and are charged separately.
Why can cargo charges increase above the starting package?
The airline charges for the prepared shipment, which includes the deceased, coffin and packing. The starting package is calculated within the included 100 kg band. A higher final packed weight can move the shipment into a higher cargo band and increase the airline component.
Can you arrange a connecting flight?
Yes. We normally prefer a practical direct flight, but a connecting route can be coordinated when no suitable direct option is available, provided the operating airline accepts the proposed movement through the connection.
What happens if the booked flight is cancelled?
We coordinate the next workable option. Any eligible airline cargo or passenger-ticket refund follows the airline's own policy and processing timeline. Completed embalming and coffin preparation are not refundable. If the family does not want to wait for another flight, road transportation can be arranged separately at an additional charge.
Where is the coffin collected after the flight lands?
The coffin is released through the destination airport's cargo facility rather than the passenger baggage belt. We guide the authorised receiver on the available flight / cargo details and the identification or documents to keep ready for collection.
